WELCOME TO THE CFZ BLOG NETWORK: COME AND JOIN THE FUN

Half a century ago, Belgian Zoologist Bernard Heuvelmans first codified cryptozoology in his book On the Track of Unknown Animals.

The Centre for Fortean Zoology (CFZ) are still on the track, and have been since 1992. But as if chasing unknown animals wasn't enough, we are involved in education, conservation, and good old-fashioned natural history! We already have three journals, the largest cryptozoological publishing house in the world, CFZtv, and the largest cryptozoological conference in the English-speaking world, but in January 2009 someone suggested that we started a daily online magazine! The CFZ bloggo is a collaborative effort by a coalition of members, friends, and supporters of the CFZ, and covers all the subjects with which we deal, with a smattering of music, high strangeness and surreal humour to make up the mix.

It is edited by CFZ Director Jon Downes, and subbed by the lovely Lizzy Bitakara'mire (formerly Clancy), scourge of improper syntax. The daily newsblog is edited by Corinna Downes, head administratrix of the CFZ, and the indexing is done by Lee Canty and Kathy Imbriani. There is regular news from the CFZ Mystery Cat study group, and regular fortean bird news from 'The Watcher of the Skies'. Regular bloggers include Dr Karl Shuker, Dale Drinnon, Richard Muirhead and Richard Freeman. The CFZ bloggo is updated daily, and there's nothing quite like it anywhere else. Come and join us...

OLL LEWIS: Yesterday's News Today

http://cryptozoologynews.blogspot.com/

On this day in 2006 Robert C. Baker died. Baker is well known as the inventor of the chicken nugget, chicken hotdog sausage and of turkey ham. Like Tim Berners-Lee did with the internet Baker gave his invention to the world to benefit mankind.

KARL SHUKER: The horned demon cat of WW2

It could have been a scene enacted from Dante's 'Inferno' - even the clouds seemed to be wreathed in flames as torrent after torrent of plummeting German bombs screamed through the darkened skies over south London, and danced a fiery tarantella of death upon its shuddering streets, like a flurry of shrieking souls in everlasting torment. And in the midst of this panorama of pandemonium was Howard Leland - one of many volunteers with the ARP (Air Raid Precautions) who had been boldly defying the deadly rain of missiles throughout that fearful evening in October 1943 in a desperate bid to minimise its malevolent effects. Little did Leland realise, however, that he would soon encounter something infinitely more sinister, and malign, than anything conjured forth by the wartime enemy.

CFZ PEOPLE: David Braund-Phillips

Dave (pictured here with CFZ Life-President John Blashford-Snell and some fat hippy) was due to be released from hospital at tea time today, but the authorities changed their minds and said that he was not well enough to come home. I shall be going to see him tomorrow, by which time we hope that he will have had an unltrasound scan, and we will know a bit more about what is wrong with him..

CFZ PEOPLE: Mary Downes (1922-2002)

My mother died ten years ago today. Not a day goes by that I don't think of her, but today in particular, please forgive me if I am a little melancholy.

CFZ PEOPLE: David Braund-Phillips

My nephew David, who many of you will know intends to take over the running of the CFZ circus when he is old and foolhardy enough, is ill in hospital. I spoke to Jessica earlier and Graham and I will be going to see him tomorrow.

More news as and when we get it.
